Time To Act

The countdown has begun. We have less than ten years to actualize our vision: A world where everyone has lasting access to safe water. Ensuring consistent availability of clean water is key to globalizing sanitation and hygiene facilities. A plan of this scale requires the support of national government-led systems – only they have the scale, financial muscle, and authority required. Water For People aims to harness the collective actions of government, businesses, and civil society actors to achieve our vision Everyone Forever.

Destination 2030 is underpinned by 10X thinking. Instead of small incremental improvements, we aspire for exponential global advances. We believe that the world will achieve SDG 6 – with us playing a significant role in it – in the coming decade.

Forging Ahead

Fundamentally, the world is changing; WASH must change, too. The COVID-19 pandemic has shined the spotlight on the fact that far too many people around the world still lack reliable water access. Our goal is to finally solve this challenge by connecting big, disruptive ideas with real, operational delivery.

With the shared vision of achieving United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: Clean Water and Sanitation for All, Water For People and IRC are in the process of developing a new federation. Why? Because we believe we will achieve greater impact by sharing resources and knowledge in the lead-up to 2030. Simply put, we believe we can do more toward achieving SDG 6 – and do it better – by joining forces. The creation of the federation is in progress, with exploration and planning continuing throughout 2021.

The Endgame

The beginning of the new decade prompted us to develop a long-term vision for the next 10 years. We call this vision Destination 2030. It will outline how we aim to exponentially expand our impact by 2030 – the target date to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Our impact on the quality of life of communities will grow significantly over the next decade. The previous decade was all about developing, testing and refining methods and impact models. They work well. The coming decade is about action. We aim to implement our impact models and achieve 10x growth by 2030 – 20 million to 200 million to 2 billion people. In our road to achieve Everyone Forever, we envision a federation rooted in Synergistic Strengths, Collective Action and Changing Ourselves, achieving which will eventually lead us to create a sustainable system of lasting sanitation and water-hygiene facilities.

What’s Next?

In the coming months, we look forward to sharing more updates around this new initiative and inviting you all to join us in making this vision a reality.
